You might be reading car insurance articles telling you that insurance claims can go very smoothly. That is true if you live in a really perfect world. That is not the case when you meet an accident on the road and there are some scenarios which just might bring in a loop.
Car insurance scenario #1
You are driving on a slippery road and smashed into the guardrail ending up with damages to your own vehicle.
Here is what you need to do. Although it is a one-car road mishap, you need to file a police report which will serve as documentation of the incident. It will be best to call the cops while you are still in the scene of the accident. Advise your insurer and start a claim to cover the expenses for the damage. This single mishap will not cause you higher premiums especially if you did not cause the accident. Be wary though if you had several claims in the past years. You might also be tagged with a higher premium in case you drove carelessly.
Car insurance scenario # 2
Your car is rear-ended at a stop sign. Other driver is at fault but the other party does not file a claim to his auto insurance company.
Aside from exchanging important information with the other driver make sure that you get the phone number for his insurance company. This will allow you to follow up in case the driver at fault does not take action.
Car insurance scenario #3
Your car is hit by someone who has no insurance and you do not have a coverage for uninsured drivers.
The option is pretty limited in this scenario. You can use your own auto insurance but you can ask the other driver to reimburse the expenses. In case you are injured, you can sue the driver so your medical bills will be covered.
