insurance 2In car insurance, as in most anything else, scams do exist. However, because your safety is at stake here, it is even more important to not only avoid such scams, but to do everything you possibly can to prevent yourself from ever coming into contact with a scam or a scammer.

Common sense is key here. It will be what keeps con artists from taking advantage of you.

The first thing you need to do is make sure you comparison shop for your car insurance. Getting quotes from a number of different car insurance companies, online and off, can help you get a lot of information as well. Information is knowledge and scams cannot work when you are knowledgeable.

You also need to make sure your insurance agent is legitimate. Check out licenses and credentials.

With any payment you make, you need to make sure you have proof.

insurance 1“Pay as You Drive” auto insurance is becoming increasingly popular. In fact, the whole idea of it is something of an innovation. A number of car insurance companies have implemented this plan. One benefit is that it has changed the entire cost of car insurance for a great many people.

Typically, the price of car insurance rates and premium occupies a very broad range. In most circumstances, safe drivers have to pay for unsafe drivers, even if those payments are indirect. However, these “Pay as You Drive” plans allows drivers to pay far less, at least during times of the day when driving is considered safer. A device is typically installed onto the vehicle, and it records the information of the journey, as well as the driver’s driving patterns. The premium will reflect those patters.

Now that we have touched a little bit on moving and car insurance – let’s really dive into the subject.  When you are moving, it is stressful enough to switch everything over to the new state and address that you are relocating too – however, finding a new car insurance company to go through is even harder.

Did you know that if you just reach out to your current car insurance company, they can actually probably give you a list of names and agents out in the new area that you are going to be in?  Recently, I had this and when I got all settled into my new place – I basically reached out, gave my new zip code and I was in touch with a new agent in no time at all.

It is easier than having to research all of that yourself huh?  Just reach out to your car insurance agent right now and I can promise that they will make the transition painless.

moving-day

Whenever you are moving, it is a life changing thing.  I know I am in the process of moving out of my comfort zone and into a brand new place and the last thing that is on my mind is car insurance … until I get settled and realize that car insurance is not the same in every single state.

Have you thought about that?  Well, I actually did not and I did not realize that when you move and get all set up – you might have to switch insurance companies or agents.  To be quite frank, I think this is pretty stupid.  I’d rather just stick with the same agent and the same car insurance company, however – you can’t.

In the next blog, we are going to talk about what you will need to do when you move and get settled to get your car insurance all set up.  Stay tuned!

Your guide to car insurance Ireland

Newport Insurance Company

You can never get a feel for a car insurance company without really knowing the background for it.  One company that before researching it I knew absolutely nothing about was Newport Insurance Company.  This particular insurance company is one that I did not really think about when I was doing my research because I didn’t know about it – however, it is one company that is worth looking into.

Newport Insurance Company is actually one of the largest insurance companies out there and it is actually extremely well-known and is owned by Bank of America.  It has over $1.7 trillion in assets and over 200k employees.  Now I would say that is huge huh!

Customer service for Newport Insurance Company is actually really good and they pride themselves on being extremely knowledgeable about all kinds of car insurance policies.

MetLife Auto Insurance

Finding the ideal car insurance company is very, very important whenever you are looking at switching.  The biggest mistake that people make whenever they are switching car insurance companies is that they do not do their research on the company itself.  This can be a costly mistake and one that should not be avoided – remember that.

That is why we are going to take a peek into a few companies, so that way you can get some background.  Firstly, the MetLife Auto Insurance is the company we are going to research a little bit.  This particular company is a life insurance company really and while they have been in the auto insurance business for a while, MetLife Auto Insurance is really about life insurance.

However – I currently have MetLife Auto Insurance and I think that it is pretty awesome.  The deals are cool, the customer service is awesome and I think that the fact that MetLife as a whole is a Fortune 100 company makes all the difference.

If, like so many people, you think you're paying way too much for your insurance - head over to Farmers and get a new car insurance rate quote - you'll be surprised at what you can save!

volvo_child_seats_24_10_05Now that we have discussed a little bit about the car seat itself, let’s go ahead and talk about some of the things that you, as a parent can really keep tabs on and make sure that your child is safe.  The first thing that you need to do is make sure that you test your car seat for safety.  This means that you want to make sure that it is very durable and will be able to sustain in an accident.

Next, you want to make sure that you put it in correctly – this is a huge part of what is wrong with the car seat safety area … most people have no idea how to put a car seat in.  Luckily, if you drop by your local fire department, they can actually help teach you the right way to put in a car seat.

Putting in a car seat correctly is the most important thing and if a certified fire fighter shows you how to put one in … make sure you listen!

2361548362_8901d3bf12_bWhen you think about transporting your child in your car – what is usually the first question that comes to your mind?  Well, to mind is that child seats are they really safe?  To me – I don’t know – I don’t have a child but really, for those of you that do, have you ever asked yourself that?  Car crashes are actually at the top of the list for causes of death and injury for American children.

Did you know that most of those are actually because the parents do not know how to use the child seat and therefore did not put in right or did not strap their child into it right?  That is not the entire story though, NHTSA, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration actually did some tests on car seats and found that many different brands were not safe either.

While this might have been corrected now – there is still some concern.  That is what we are going to explore in the next blog, how you can prevent your child from becoming a statistic.

red 2It has to be said that, in answer to the questions posed in the previous post, there are no statistics officially kept which either prove or disprove those theories.

That being said, there are strong suspicions that car insurance companies keep a closer watch on, say, the drivers of hot red sports cars than they do on the drivers of more sedate, mundane type vehicles.

Car insurance companies will typically charge higher rates for sports cars, because there is prove that those driving these types of cars are more inclined to get speeding tickets and even to get into accidents.

You will pay less for a sedan or SUV than you will for a sports car, because they are simply considered safer. Likewise, your rates will typically be less for an older car than a brand new one.

red 1We have all heard the myth that people who are driving red cars tend to get more speeding tickets and other traffic violations than people with different colored automobiles, right? Well, the real question is, does that myth have any truth behind it?

Is it true that a car insurance company may charge you higher rates if you drive a red car?

Are you more likely to get into an accident if you drive a red car, or a car with another “risky” color?

The answers to some, if not all, of these questions may come as quite a surprise to you. After all, you have to wonder if there is any truth behind these things which people have been saying for years.

This has to be a joke, right? An urban legend? And old wives’ tale?

Well…
